But I will go much further, and tell you about the game that does not need to be particularly presented, everyone knows it, these are space rangers 2. Perhaps she is not so old as to take a place in my blog “Back into the past”, but still she went far from yesterday and many have already managed to resign what masterpiece game captured the mind of players in 2004.

A little about the plot

The main events of the second part of the game unfolded 250 years after the end of the war with the Clisans – in 3300. Suddenly, a new threat to the Galaxy appears – dominators – a form of cyber industry, endowed with its own intelligence. We acted as a cosmic ranger and had to save the Galaxy from three dominators: Blazer, Keller and Terron (who also fought among themselves).

I will not go into details how, why, why these dominators appeared, you can find out all this in the original game. I must say that the plot here did not represent much importance or interest, and the game was famous for not the plot ..

Game without a genre?

Unequivocally attributed rangers to any genre it was impossible. This game combined so many different opportunities that at first eyes scattered. There was a place for ordinary RPG elements like pumping the ship and the skills of the character himself. We controlled the ship, as in a step -by -step strategy, fought on planets against dominators, as in real -time strategy, studied black holes, as in Arkad, performed various tasks in unusual text quests. Is it possible to give a certain name of the genre such an extensive game? Yes, it turns out that the name of the genre could fully justify the game – an epic game, some preferred a space opera, someone liked it, but it didn’t make sense itself, the game was truly epic.

Truly so, the game had a lot of different opportunities. Before starting, we were invited to choose one of five races (Maloki, Dylenges, People, Fzyan, Gaalts), Class (Mercenary, Corsair, Pirate, merchant, Warrior), Equipment and initial skills. Battles were carried out in the system of step -by -step strategy. You chose the target, weapons, ordered to attack and pressed the end button. On this your role actually ended. You think it’s very boring? Naturally, you are wrong, this approach of developers, on the contrary, allowed them to expand the tactical capabilities of the player.

It can be a dominator to lure closer to the sun so that he has a little time or ask for help from the nearest military and take it in the ring, this is your choice. For each killed dominator, we received glasses and earned new titles. For each title, bonuses were given like the next new fuel tank or various viral programs against dominators. Of course, after the battle, you went out rather battered and for repairs in 15,000 loans you had to pay, but what?

It was possible to earn money in several ways, firstly, this is the performance of the tasks of the data by the government of one of the races, secondly trade in goods like luxury or drugs, thirdly the sale of dominators’ technologies, and in the fourth, you could just take a loan, but what to return? The economic balance in the game was on top, because you never had a mountain of money, but at the same time there was enough for the latest equipment, though only in Prutyk. Where to spend money? This question is even easier to answer. Naturally, first of all, on pumping your ship: various engines, hulls, droids, radars, scanners, disintegrators, multi -terrezanators, could be bought on almost every planet, and at scientific stations it was also improved. One of the features of the game was the abundance of humor, often parody, especially in quests about the murder or delivery of any cargo. Another feature of the game was text quests. They opened the developers of truly unique opportunities. You can’t cram the racing simulator, a shooter, the battles of robots, adventure, puzzles and a bunch of all kinds of genres in one game. For the creation of the game, considerable years would go away and here this idea came to mind to mind. Why not turn all their ventures into letters. Everything turned out simple enough. After taking the assignment and arrival on the desired planet, a window appeared before us. On the left there was a continuous text with a description of the actions and situations of the player, as well as the answer options or any actions that could be performed, and on the right a window with a description of objects or statistics, well, also pictures that accompanied the player as the quest passed. And all. But with the help of this unpretentious idea, they managed to make an incredible one and believe me such a quest tightened even better than any shooter or RPG. As I already said, it was possible to participate in the battles of robots, to help with a resort, collect your own rock band, work with a trucker, take part in the presidential election, prepare a banquet for the Maloki prince and even sit out in prison in prison. In general, entertainment was enough for the whole game, each quest was unique and unique and it could be passed in different ways.

Living universe

The world around the hero lived his own life and did not depend on the player’s actions. Merchants traveled from the system to the system and tried to buy cheaper, and sell it more expensive in order to accumulate on the brand new building into which even more goods for sale would be included. Pirates robbed and killed merchants, competing who is the most merciless and terrible pirate in the Galaxy. The military caught and exterminated the pirates to get the next increase and medal on the chest. The rangers were engaged in their usual business, destroyed dominators, sold technologies at scientific bases, handed over nodes to get another module that would make them stronger and moved in the list of the most fearless heroes of the galaxy. Dominators also did not sit still, but slowly seized the system behind the system to exterminate all living things, including hostile dominators and advance in the population.
